Many bats live together in roosting trees in the tropics. Nocturnal feeders, bats often make up close to half of all mammal species found in a tropical forest.
Chiroptera is the scientific name for bat. It means "hand wing", because the skeleton supporting the wing consists of the animal's long finger bones, arms and legs. Bats eat fruit, insects, or nectar, depending on the species.
